Bed and breakfast at the Ashwood Grange in Torquay

Your comfort is the priority for resident proprietors Clare and Stuart, who take the greatest pleasure in warmly welcoming new & returning business & holiday visitors to their conveniently situated bed and breakfast in Torquay. The bedrooms are tastefully decorated and very comfortable. We offer eight rooms with en-suite bathrooms, bed space includes single, double, twin and family rooms, one of which is on the ground floor. All bedrooms have full central heating, beverage making facilities, shaver points, hair dryers, alarm clock / radios and colour television. We have a popular two-room family suite that includes a room with double bed and en-suite bathroom, with an inter-connecting door opening to a room with two single beds and a separate entrance.

Breakfast at Ashwood Grange is included in our tariff and is served in the well appointed guest dining room. You have a selection from the buffet followed by a full cooked breakfast.

Covid-19 Risk Assessment

The safety and well being of our guests is, always has been and always will be of paramount importance to us. Everyone in our Bed & Breakfast should quite rightly expect a safe, clean and protected environment always. However, more so now than ever due to the current coronavirus crisis. We have always maintained an exceptionally high cleaning routine and standards. Daily thorough cleaning is standard for us, throughout our building at all times, but of course, this will be enhanced even more for the current situation.
We are trying to give you extra peace of mind so you can book and stay with confidence. Below are some of the measures, procedures and policies we are undertaking to make our Bed & Breakfast safe, and for your stay with us to be as safe and enjoyable as possible. As the situation changes then so will the review of our procedures and how we operate, and therefore, be updated as required.

Before you make your journey to us:-
Please do not travel... if you or anyone in your party is showing any symptoms of Coronavirus (fever, persistent cough, loss of taste or smell). Instead please telephone 111 to speak to NHS staff and once you have done this, let us know of the change of plan and re-book your dates for a more convenient time if this is required. When you arrive, if you look like you may have symptoms, it will be a requirement that your temperature is taken, and if it is 38°C or above we will ask you to return home & self-isolate as per the government guidelines. We of course, would look to your reservation, if possible, being changed to another date if required at no extra cost.
Any guest who has arrived in the UK from Overseas within 14 days prior to their arrival at our Bed & Breakfast then please contact us in advance of travelling to us, in order to discuss the reservation.

Checking-in and social distancing:-
We would normally welcome any of our guests with open arms (literally) but sadly the way things are this will not be possible. Please rest assure though, you are very welcome. We do request that you try to keep to the 1 metre + rule with us, and other guests in our home, which are not in your party. In our communal area's i.e (stairs etc) please allow the people walking up the stairs the right of way. Hand sanitisers are available within the building. Please use it every time you enter the building. We are minimising contact and increasing protection in our reception area, keeping social distancing measures in place. If you arrive at the same time as another guest please either wait, if feasible, in your car or in our porch way inside to keep to the social distancing measures.
Your keys to your room will be sanitised by us prior to your arrival and left in your room for you.

Hygiene and anti-bacterial sanitising spray:-
More continuous cleaning of public areas, such as, door handles, handrails will be cleaned with approved disinfectants, effective against COVID-19. In the guest rooms, we’re paying extra special attention to cleaning all hard surfaces, heating controls, TV remote controls, door & draw handles, kettles, light pulls, hair dryers, bedside lights, light switches, window handles and desks and switches. It will be the same in our en-suites. Obviously different cleaning items will be changed between bedroom and bathrooms, and of that to the next room.

Daily room cleaning:-
Unfortunately, we ask you to please appreciate at this time daily room cleaning will not be able to take place, this is to maintain minimal contact for both your safety and ours.  However, if you are staying more than 4 days then on the 5th day we will come into your room to clean it. We would ask that you have vacated the room at that time, and left windows open please. Any guests requiring additional tea, coffee etc just need to ask us and we will be more than happy to provide. You will need to please leave the pot outside your door along with your bin if needing to be emptied by late morning. We will be putting rubbish from rooms into our outside bins straight away. We will wherever possible, be leaving time before going in to clean a room which has been vacated and then in turn where possible we will be leaving that vacated cleaned room at least 24 hours before letting it to another guest.

Bed linen:-
We have a contract with a local laundry company who launders our linen at over 60 degrees, with disinfectant detergent so you can enjoy a safe and great night’s sleep.
Protective equipment:-
Being as there is currently no government guidance on the need for us to have to wear face masks or gloves in our type of establishment, we have chosen to not wear them for serving breakfast or welcoming you. However, when cleaning a room we will be wearing suitable protection.

Both of us (Stuart & Clare) know how to wash our hands properly and thoroughly. It is something we are constantly doing as a normal, on a daily basis and will continue to do to keep everyone safe whilst in our home. This is something we have always done. We have high standards, and it is only the two of us, as we do not employ any staff ever. We do ask all our guests to wash their hands frequently, please, and to watch their social distancing when out and about and to use the sanitiser once back in our Bed & Breakfast.
If we find Coronavirus on site, we will self-isolate, and this may result in us needing to cancel your booking at short notice. If this happens, we will offer a full refund or an alternative date for booking.

We are offering more staggered time's for breakfast, as well as an order the night before menu. This will have the choice we are offering on it, whereby you will need to tick what you would like and leave in the tray by our private door. Where possible we will do our best to offer you a vast choice, but of course, this is subject to availability. We will not be using all of our tables in our breakfast room, and the one's that are not in use we will use to put your requested order on, and you will then have to collect from that table. Only one table order at only one time. Everything will presently have to be served from the kitchen. We are unable for the time being to have our buffet tables set out. Stuart cooks and Clare serves. We have a hygiene rating of 5.

Takeaway Food:-
If you wish to have takeaway food in our Bed & Breakfast, due to eating out may be more limited in some aspects, If you ask, we can provide cutlery & plates for you to use. We kindly ask you however, to please try and not make a mess, and ideally have some ventilation in the room when eating to eliminate odours. Once you have eaten could you please be kind enough to bring your used cutlery, plates & rubbish and leave them outside the private door and let us know. We will then take these and wash them in the dishwasher and throw away your rubbish in the outside bins.

Where convenient, guests are asked to please use the bathroom facilities in their own bedroom rather than the public one at the top of the stairs on the landing as it will NOT be in use.
We do have a guests lounge which is available for guests to use, remembering the social distancing rule. If you are having any form of takeaway food it, may well be better to eat in here rather than your room.
We have removed all books from guest bedrooms at this time. You will be able find information in our hallway area though.
We have also taken out of guest bedrooms cushions and runners and complimentary toiletries. We can provide toiletries if you need them (shampoo/shower gel)
We have taken out of our public area's, things such as, leaflets for local attractions, but many of them will be open. Books/brochures on local area's as well as guides to eating out. It will be worth pointing out that many of these places; attractions and places to eat, will now be operating a booking system before you are able to go.
Please maintain the 1 metre + rule whenever/wherever possible. Should you feel unwell during your stay please let us know and check out immediately in order to self-isolate at home and seek medical advice.
